CMMC 2- Operations in the East

How do we see CMMC 2?

Vision Statement

To facilitate an operational level game, simulating combat on the WW2 Eastern Front with a balance between realism and playability.

Mission Statement

The idea behind CMMC 2 is to create a friendly game that simulates operational level warfare on the eastern front during WW II. CMMC2 will be a single operation based on a historical situation, but will vary details to create the uncertainty that exists in any military operation. CMMC 2 will use Battle Front’s “Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin “to simulate tactical combat. The operational aspects will be governed by the CMMC rules that have been used for the previous CMMC games, adjusted for the eastern front.

Human players will fill positions from each side’s overall commander all the way down to individual BN commanders. The game will be maintained and run by a voluntary game master (GM) cadre. The GMs will handle the interaction of the Russian and German sides to resolve the game situations and preserve the Fog of War (FOW).

We want to promote the Role-Play aspect of Player Commands in CMMC2. Players are encouraged to develop their "in-game-characters" to enhance the feeling of being an officer in command of their "virtual" troops.

A key concept is that this is an operational game. The strategies of the commanders on either side will dictate the flow of the battlefield. The success of these strategies will be based on a combination of planning, training and execution up and down the chain of command. To make this all come together, many different aspects of military operations are simulated including players that fill roles in staff positions to handle intelligence gathering, operations execution, supply and artillery.

One of the things that makes a game like CMMC 2 possible is the use of Battle Front’s Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin (CM:BB) to play out tactical battles. This simulator models units down to the single vehicle/squad. Individual BN commanders can take their units into battle do decide the fate of the overall operation in individual skirmishes. We use actual WW II maps of the scenario area to recreate the terrain that we are simulating. CMMC 1 used Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord (CM:BO) to simulate battle in the same way with great success on the western front. While CM:BB is not the main focus of CMMC 2, it makes the operational simulation more interesting by giving a better feel for the individual skirmishes as they play out. It is fun for players who want to get a feel for tactical combat while being a small but important cog in a machine much larger than they are.
